Up for your consideration is a 2009 Gibson SG that I bought on Ebay 2 years ago as just the body and neck. I wanted to put together the ultimate Gibson SG so I ordered all the hardware from Gibson...pots, tuners, Tune-O-Matic/stopbar bridge. I sanded and filled the Mahogany body and neck, sealed it and then applied 20 coats of walnut stained Nitro-Lacquer. I did buy the Cream MOP pick guard from WD Music and installed two Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pickups. All of the wiring is cloth insulated and the guitar sounds phenomenal. The neck is straight and the action is set at 5/64” at the 12th fret with no buzzing anywhere. I didn’t have a piece of black plastic for the rear cover at the time so I used a clear piece of plexi-glass to show the electronics. The guitar comes with a Like new Epiphone Hard shell case because I didn’t have a Gibson case. I hate getting rid of this guitar but a customer brought an old Gibson Bass into my store for consignment and I want that Bass. A Little SG History…in 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that made the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist behind the original Les Paul did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to the end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.
