1965 Gibson SG Junior
You don't have to be a Legend to appreciate the sound and the soul of the SG Junior! This sculptured, fast-playing, versatile high-power classic has been driving rock, pop and blues for 40 years. It's stripped down mentality and cutting tone made it a favorite of early punk and rock musicians alike. This guitar is one of the all-time hard rockin' favorites! Like its earlier sister, the Gibson Les Paul Junior, it had been created for sale to anyone who wanted Gibson quality for a cheap price. From 1961 to 1963, it was named the "Les Paul Junior". In 1963, "Les Paul" was removed from the headstock and officially called the SG Junior.
This guitar is known for its single P-90 treble pickup, and the stopbar bridge instead of the two-bar tune-o-matic bridge. The influence of the P90 equipped SG of the mid 60's spanned the rock genre and has notably been played by the likes of Pete Townshend among others. Players like Dickey Betts, Duane Alman, Freddie King, David Gilmour, Muddy Waters, Steve Miller, Jimmy Page, Neil Young, Joe Walsh, Jeff Beck, Carl Perkins, Frank Zappa, Eric Clapton, Keith Urban, Keith Richards and the list goes on...have all had the fever for that P-90 sound. Now mix that POWERFUL P-90 crunch with a chunky mahogany neck and you've really got a guitar that GROWLS! For blues and early rock you can't beat this guitar. This guitar sounds great clean or with some overdrive/distortion. Distorted this baby has a real nasty growl which is great for a gritty dirty and bluesy type tunes. Roll back the volume and it's clean, jazzy and big.
The SG Junior features a slim, lightweight mahogany body paired with a P-90 single coil pickup From 1965 to 1971, it had a generic SG pickguard with a soapbar P90 rather than the original dog-ear. This is a very early '65 model because it has the original dog-ear P-90. This guitar is ALL ORIGINAL AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL HARDSHELL CASE. The serial number (508989) and the pots (1376529) all correctly date this guitar to 1965. The Cherry finish is beautifully checked like only many years of living and loving can do! The original frets are still in great shape with plenty of life in them. The thickness of the neck measures .815 at the 1st fret and .987 at the 12th, so it's nice and fat. This guitar is a blast to play! She's a collectors prize and a players dream!
